ESPN New York released their list of the top 50 greatest Yankees of all time. When you rank that many good players, it’s going to be impossible to put together a perfect list, but I didn’t realize that ESPN was going to put rain man in charge of the list. 50 players is too much to criticize in this post, so I’m going to go off of the top 20.
- Babe Ruth
- Lou Gherig

- Joe Dimaggio
- Mickey Mantle
- Mariano Rivera
- Yogi Berra
- Derek Jeter
- Whitey Ford
- Red Ruffing
- Bill Dickey
- Don Mattingly
- Thurman Munson
- Alex Rodriguez
- Lefty Gomez
- Reggie Jackson
- Andy Pettitte
- Ron Guidry
- Tony Lazzeri
- Bernie Williams
- Phil Rizzuto
- Jorge Posada
- Roger Marris
- Earle Combs
- Elston Howard
- Goose Gossage
A-ROD AT 13! FUCKING ALEX RODRIGUEZ AS THE 13TH GREATEST YANKEE OF ALL TIME? My friend Maggie could probably name 10 total players that have ever been on the Yankees, A-Rod being one of them, and she still wouldn’t put A-Rod at fucking 13. Some dickhead in Myrtle Beach this year was telling me he had Belmont in the final four this year, because they don’t turn the ball over and blah blah blah…and this is fucking dumber than that. The dude has been on the team for like 6 seasons, and you’re telling me he’s six spots higher than Bernie Williams, a four-time world champion, who’s top 5 in nearly ever category the Yankees could even think of? For Shame.
It’s hard to start arguing the top like eight guys though, but with all due respect, the shit’s fucked. Derek Jeter is in the top 5, and Mariano Rivera is higher than number 5 itself. Sorry Lou, but you can slide down the list a little bit, I don’t give a shit that you died in uniform basically, not my problem. These rankings aren’t a charity run by Curt Schilling for ALS, this shit is serious. There isn’t a doubt in my mind Jeter is number 1 on this list. He IS the New York Yankees, and is going to be first in nearly every statistical category when he retires, he is the perfect baseball player.
There’s a few spots here and there I could get into, but I got a co-ed basketball championship to go take down. So i’ll leave you with this, I consider myself a pretty decent Yankees fan, I know the history, I know the record, blah blah blah. I have NEVER heard the fuck of Earl Combs. Apparently he was the lead off hitter for murderers row, sweet bro. Go hit some walk offs against the Red Sox and Orioles in the playoffs like Bernie and we’ll talk about where you rank.
Oh, and Paul O’Neill at number 30 is a fucking sham. The dude won championships with his game face alone.
