The Year of the No Name and Has Beens

2010 has been a funny year for baseball.  If you were to look at a lot of the stat leaders for various categories, it’s incredibly surprising.  It may only be June 9th, but were still a little more than 1/3 of the way through the season and these guys have some seriously great numbers so far.  Who are these “No names,” and “Has Beens” that I am referring to?  Well here’s a pretty sweet list of ‘em.

?

Tyler Clippard, Nationals:  I remember watching him in like early April vs. the Mets.  He absolutely dominated and it was as if Strasburg snuck in to the dugout, put on his jersey and pretended to be some bum whose last name is Clippard.  The guy hasn’t let down whatsoever and is by far the best pitcher on that team as he leads them in wins, holds, and strikeouts (although there’s no way in hell he stays #1 in K’s for long).  He would make a perfect closer, and I look for him to be dealt if the Nationals fall apart by mid July.

Carlos Silva, Cubs.  This guy’s so damn fat he broke the branch off his family tree.  Whether

people even consider him an athlete or not isn’t the question, the question is how the HELL does he go from being a combined 5-18 with an ERA of like 7 between 2008 and 2009 to 8-0 and a 2.93 ERA in 2010!?  I bet the Mariners are ecstatic about trading him for Milton Bradley.  All I know is that if I’m a Cubs fan and Carlos Silva is just about the only thing going right for my team right now, I’m no longer a Cubs fan.  Like seriously, they should just all give the hell up.

Scott Rolen, Reds.  When the Reds GM traded for him last season, he took a lot of crap.  I know I even looked at the trade and thought to myself, “what are you a ra-tard?  I thought you’re trying to rebuild?”  Well, he’s getting the last laugh as the Reds are a pretty solid team and Rolen is the best player on it.  The guy has 14 HR’s already!  Like really?  The last time he hit more than 11 was 2006.  Not to mention he’s batting .300 and has 40 rbi’s.  He’s a beast again at 35 years young.

Jose Bautista, Blue Jays.  Not gonna lie, I’ve never even heard of this guy until a couple of weeks ago and I still don’t think Blue Jays fans have either considering their attendance this season.  Actually forget that statement, Blue Jays fans don’t exist anymore and I guarantee their team will be playing in Las Vegas in the next 5 years.  Anyway, Bautista has absolutely torn it up this season with 18 hr’s and 45 rbi’s.  The guy will be in the All Star game and everyone will be like who the hell’s this guy batting?

presser-glaus_mediumTroy Glaus, Braves.  I remember when like 5 people told me that the Braves signing him was going to be awful and his career’s over with.  Good call guys!  I don’t care what anyone says, he’s been the team’s MVP so far, not Jason Heyward.  Although, Heyward’s been an absolute beast and is the future of the Atlanta Braves.  Glaus continues to get clutch hit after hit and has been hitting absolute bombs in the last month and a half, just ask the Phillies.  He’s moved up to fifth in All Star voting and will probably make it via Charlie Manuel’s selection if he continues what he’s been doing.
