I wasn’t totally wrong in predicting that there would be some upsets that nobody expected in the first round of this years playoffs, as the Grizzlies and Hawks both managed to shock everyone and get into round 2. Philly fought hard but Miami was too good for my 7 game prediction, the Knicks shit the bed although injuries took a toll, the Hornets made a nice run and the Blazers dissapointed me. But, nevertheless here are my updated predictions for round 2 that starts today at 1.
Grizzlies at Thunder, Game 1 today at 1:00. Memphis surprised the hell out of us all and took down the team with the best record in the West. How does a team that dominates all season long and win 61 games lose to the #8 seeded Memphis Grizzlies who, as a franchise has never even played a playoff game? And are without their star? Who the fuck knows, but all I know is it further proves my point that the NBA regular season is pretty god damn pointless and only the games vs. the teams you’re going to play in the playoffs matter.
So are the Grizzlies tired from all that work in round 1? Or can they do it again? I honestly have no idea, but I don’t think we have to worry about them playing with a lack of energy here, nor will they be anywhere near scared of playing the Durantula. I think the party does stop here though, and the Grizzlies will prove that the Spurs were just an aging, overrated as hell playoff team that is clearly over the hill and has lost its will to win. The Thunder (surprisingly) were’nt really tested in round 1 and they should look fresh and ready to go. Look for Westbrook to have a monster series. I just have a feelin’. Thunder in 5
Celtics at Heat. Game 1 today at 3:30. Does anyone know what to expect here? This, I believe will be the best series of them all. The Celtics (once again) proved that they don’t care about the regular season and turn it up when they need to and got their first sweep ever as the “Big 3.” Surprising right? Never would have thought they’d beat the Knicks like that. But, the Celtics are going to need to play better to beat a Heat team that looked incredible vs. the Sixers. Philly played well, but in the end just had no chance.
I think the most important matchup here will once again be Rondo vs. Mike Bibby/ Mario Chalmers. I just don’t see how Miami expects to gaurd him with these 2 defensive ding dongs. Bibby couldn’t guard me, and Chalmers blows. If Rondo can tear them up, create space and get the ball to open Ray Allen, Garnett, or Peirce jumpers then I think the Celtics will win. Which, is exactly what I predict. The Big 2 in Miami (Bosh sucks ass and doesnt even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Wade or Lebron) will lose to the Big 3 of Boston in 6.
Atlanta Hawks at Chicago Bulls. Game 1 is Tomorrow at 8. For the first time in 3 years the Hawks played like they had nothing to lose, and actually cared about what people were saying about them. It was nice to see that they gave a shit, and were pissed about nobody giving them a shot to beat Dwight Howard. Now, people are doing it again. The Bulls won 2 out of 3 in the regular season vs. the Hawks and their two wins were blowouts. Can the Hawks show that they have balls and play some more gritty, defensive and hard fought battles vs. the Bulls? I think they can, but they will definitely need Kirk Hinrich who might miss the entire series. It’s a huge loss for Atlanta, and it means that Jeff Teague will have to prove his worth.
The Bulls played anything but a good first round series, with Boozer being non existent and Rose shooting worse than the Awkward Situation from 3, they’ll likely need a better series from both of them to beat the Hawks (although they still have to obviously be favored). The biggest matchups will end up being Hawks gaurds vs. Rose without Kirk, and Al Horford vs. Joakim Noah. It should be a fun battle to watch downlow. Prediction Bulls in 6
Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers. Game 1 is tomorrow at 10:30. This is the series I’m least interested in, mainly because I hate watching both teams and am sick of them. I could care less who wins this matchup, and unforuntely we all know exactly who is going to. I just don’t see anyway the Mavs with this series, as they’ve proved time and time again they know how to choke in the playoffs and the Lakers are the complete opposite.
I’m sick of seeing Mark Cuban blow his load every time Dirk hits an open jumper, or Jason Kidd has a nice assist. But I’m even more sick of seeing fucking Jack Nicholson being shown 11 times a game grinning like an asshole. Hmm, here’s probably how this series is going to play out. The Mavs will steal 1 in LA, everyone will talk about how the Lakers are going to lose. Then the Mavs will go up big at the half in games 3 or 4, and then it’ll be all “Lakers are done. Is this the end of Kobe?” Then boom. Lakers won’t lose another game and will dominate all the way to a series win in 6. Yawn.
