At the risk of sounding racist, I think the Celtics wanted to grab a few guys to change their image, some team guys…some whites. I mean, the most thug team in the NBA over the past three years has been the Celts. And don’t give me that Scal bullshit, he was a mascot not a player.
The Celts have Garnett, the biggest piece of shit in the NBA. Pierce, the second biggest piece of shit in the NBA. Rondo, the most overrated point guard, and now the guy who feels he has the right to act like an asshole and become Kevin Garnett Junior. And then you had Perkins, guilty by association. So, there is no doubt in my mind this move was pure PR. And no, I will never get over the stunt Paul Pierce pulled in the ’08 finals, I think it rivals the A-rod slap play on the, “are you f-ing kidding me scale.”
On a serious note, I’m not sure why everyone is so fired up over this Perkins trade. Maybe his defense is really good, but you’re trading a guy averaging like 7 and 8. Not exactly numbers that make or break a team. Honestly, you throw another 7 footer in there with Garnett, and your not going to be losing those rebound numbers. Bring up the finals all you want, but the difference is you had Glen Davis playing center, a guy who is undersized at his own position.
Guys like Rondo and Perkins are expendable when you have three hall of famers on your team, that know how to make people around them all stars.
By the way, Perkins just signed a 4-year extension with the Thunder, paying him a 50% increase of what the Celts wanted to give him apparently, stupid extension. Sign him in the off season, see how he plays a few games at the very least with the new team. I think the Celts are exactly like the Pats right now, plug players into the core of that team and they are going to put up numbers that might as well be smoke and mirrors, then the minute they change teams, they blow. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
