A-Rod Goes Boom

Alex Rodriguez has hit 600. Thank God. I guess I feel good for the guy, but lets face it these accomplishments in baseball just aren’t the same anymore. Think about it in the last 15 or so years, four people have passed 600. Before that only three had 600. Of those four, three on steroids.Bonds, Sosa, and now A-Rod. The only true guy to reach that notorious 600 number in our generation without the use of phd’s was Griffey Jr. In my mind and I know in my fellow bloggers minds the best player in our generation is Griff.

I give A-Rod credit though, the guy has been bashed for the last year or so and this year people have been saying he’s not the same player with run production. Just because his home runs aren’t what we usually see, check out his rbi’s, still among the league leaders. The guy has dominated baseball for the last decade and deserves credit for what he’s done even though his steroid use. Don’t get me wrong, I am not an arod lover, never have been, never will be, but I will root for the guy because of my Yankee heritage.

Now do I care that he hit 600. Doesn’t effect my everyday life, and obviously ESPN doesn’t give a shit either. Today he goes for 600 and all he gets is a little update on sportscenter saying “A-rod has hit his 600 homer”…then they continue with the Brett Favre saga. That’s how much people care about this great accomplishment. Let me repeat there are 7 people who have passed this milestone in the history of baseball and most likely A-rod will reach 700. And to no one thinks this is a big deal. Just amazes me. Well anyway, thank god he has done it, so he’s got that monkey off his back and now can go drive in 125 rbi’s and win another championship for my Yanks.
