Auburn ranked number 1 in BCS, I guess they hired the right coach

Obviously we could sit here and play monday morning quarterback all day, but it looks like Auburn was right to hire Gene Chizik after all.

I remember Auburn being made out to be some school for the KKK because they didn’t hire Turner Gill, who was the coach at Buffalo at the time, current head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks. Goes to show you that maybe race doesn’t play as big a role in sports as much as the media portrays it to.

I always hear these stats about how there aren’t enough black head coaches, or that there are no african american baseball players. Hate to break the news to you, but in professional sports, it doesn’t matter if your black, white, green, or fucking asian, the best come to play. And when the best come to play in the pros, they take home the cash, bitches, and wins.

That’s what American sports is about, winning, and I think a lot of people lose sight of that and get too caught up in the race factor. Gene Chizic and the Auburn Tigers are just the most recent example of…I told you so, in terms of taking heat at the time, but actually making the right call.

Not to say there isn’t race out there in the world of sports, but I think when it comes down to the actual product that is put onto the field, it is no where near what the media makes it out to be. If we’re talking about a front office job down south, that could be a different story, but the media doesn’t exactly report on those people getting screwed.

It is almost to the point now, where if two equally qualified candidates are interviewed for a coaching job of different race, and a white coach is given the nod, then it is racism. Not because they do better in an interview, or are viewed as a better recuriter, not to mention showing a stronger love for the University.

Turner Gill got a promotion, so it’s not like he got screwed either. He is doing what most coaches have to do before they land a big time job like Auburn, they coach at a mid level school. Not many people go from having a great year at Buffalo to the University of Auburn. They take a job like Kansas and show they can move up the ranks, and then when a position opens, boom, you’ll get it. And if you were wondering, Gill is currently 2-5 with Kansas, 0-3 in the conference.
