(ESPN): Baltimore Oriolesmanager Buck Showalter isn’t backing down from the American League East’s big boys. In fact, it seems as if Showalter is going out of his way to antagonize the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.
“The first time we went to Yankee Stadium, I screamed at Derek Jeter from the dugout,” Showalter told the magazine, according to the Bergen Record. “Our guys are thinking, ‘Wow, he’s screaming at Derek Jeter.’ Well, he’s always jumping back from balls just off the plate. I know how many calls that team gets — and yes, he [ticks] me off.”
Speaking about the Red Sox, Showalter mocked the notion that Epstein’s biggest offseason acquisitions — namely, left fielder Carl Crawford and first baseman Adrian Gonzalez — were indicative of the Red Sox GM’s savvy.
“I’d like to see how smart Theo Epstein is with the Tampa Bay [Rays] payroll,” Showalter told Men’s Journal, according to the Record. “You got Carl Crawford ’cause you paid more than anyone else, and that’s what makes you smarter? That’s why I like whipping their butt. It’s great, knowing those guys with the $205 million payroll are saying, ‘How the hell are they beating us?’ “
Look at Buck Showalter go, my god. I actually really like Showalter, and have to admit he’s right on the money here. Of course Jeter gets those calls when he dives away from pitches, he’s earned that. You know what teams have done though, they throw fucking bee bee’s at his hands, how do you think that makes us Yankee fans feel, so it’s really a give and take Buck.
As far as the Sox go, looks like the shoe is finally on the other foot huh? The whole, wahh the yankees just buy their team, wahhh of course you win with that payroll, wahhh always having a top five payroll somehow doesn’t give us the same resources as the New York teams.
Can we finally just bury the fact that the Red Sox have money and that it’s a crock of shit anytime this whole, what do you expect when you buy your team concept is brought up, or the…give it five years and he’ll be a yankee. It’s honestly been the end of me as a baseball fan over the past couple of years. Like the Red Sox have had some chip on their shoulder because they can’t spend the same kind of money as the Yankees. Try being the Orioles and Rays, I’ll give time to those teams if they want to complain, and then tell them to fuck off and scout their players better. But now if I ever, ever hear a sox fan bring the concept of payroll up again I’m going to start throwing punches.
And in defense of the Red Sox now that you’ll start finally hearing some payroll bullshit, This season the teams to make the playoffs were ranked 1, 4, 10, 11, 15, 19, 21, 27th in highest payrolls. And with the Rangers and Giants making the World Series, that ensures there will be a 9th different World Champion in the past 10 seasons. So anyone who thinks payroll is that big of a deal can go suck a fart out of my ass. Payroll is as overrated a concept as strength of schedule in my book.
And if your response is that payroll gives teams advantages other teams don’t have, then yes, true, but look what that advantage does to teams like the Cubs and Mets who spend their money like dickheads.

but the yankees still have the highest payroll! they should win every year because of that. hands down. the farm system and trades and chemistry have nothing to do with it. yankees got the most money, they should win.
Eat your words Red Sux fans.
