Last night’s loss against Golden State explained a lot that has been going on so far in 2010 for the Knicks. They make this great comeback despite shooting three pointers like the guy from Along Came Polly, then they give the lead back, have a chance to shoot a three and tie, and Wilson fucking Chandler takes the shot.
Say what you want, how Chandler had 27 points, was 4-10 in the game from deep, but if the Knicks needed that game in a playoff type scenario, we all know that Danilo Gallinari is taking that shot. I’d even settle for Amar’e at this point, never knew he could shoot the three.
This isn’t the first time either, I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve sent and read texts with the same question, “Where is Danilo? Get him the ball.” Just seems like he isn’t being incorporated into the offense the way he should, and the way we expected with Amar’e being our number one scoring option.
Here is my theory. The Knicks are using Wilson Chandler in the role the way that they would be (and will be) using Danilo. The reason for this…they are trying to raise the stock on Chandler and drop the stock of Danilo in the eyes of the Denver Nuggets. They are sacrificing about 8-10 points a night early in the season, in hopes they can be adding 20 a night in more important games later on with Carmelo Anthony.
I think we all know that the best possible scenario for the Knicks is to land Carmelo, and not have to give up Gallinari. I think we also know, that adding Carmelo to the Knicks makes them serious contenders in the East. I’ll match up my big three of Amar’e, Carmelo, and Danilo all fucking day with the rest of the teams in the East. The Knicks would have the size, physicality, three point shooting, and the type of player that can put the entire offense on his back, in order to play with the Heat and Celtics in a playoff series. That is a fact.
So when it comes down to it, I’ll suck it up and watch the Knicks give up a game here or there, because I’m completely in favor of the cause.
